Free Trade
Free, liberalised trade, creating an unequal playing field between highly subsidised production in the developed world and negatively-subsidised farmers in countries like India, has been a source of the distress and crisis in agriculture. Such free trade is meant to support profit-hungry corporations, in highly rigged and unregulated regimes, and cannot ever address basic needs of community, nor create environmental sustainability. ASHA has engaged with Free Trade Agreements that are detrimental to Indian farm livelihoods, along with other active networks and organisations.
