Monsanto-isation of Indian Agriculture

About Monsanto-isation of Indian Agriculture

Monsanto in India came up with a(n) (over)smart strategy, of selling their hybrid seeds to state governments, in the name of upliftment of tribals. State governments in turn tried to distribute these hybrid maize seeds to tribal farmers free of cost, along with some deadly pesticides too. When ASHA discovered this “monsanto-isation of Indian agriculture”, it ran a campaign in Gujarat, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. In Gujarat, the then Chief Minister Mr Narendra Modi had to take a decision to throw out Monsanto from the programme after this campaign.
